After working in the department’s machine shop for over 23 years, Georg Bartels has departed to begin his retirement. A celebration was held in his honor on 13 June at the BBR campus. Georg spent much of his time at DTM working with the geophysics group to build borehole strainmeters, which the group has installed all over the world. Georg also developed a particularly helpful device that is used to deliver the necessary volume of cement to couple the sensor to the rock in which it rests. The device continues to operate flawlessly after 9 years of use.
