RAINY DAY ACTIVITIES IN GARRETT COUNTY
(from the McHenry Visitor's Center)

  • Bowling Pitt-Mar Lanes, 1244 east Oak Street: 301-334-3040

  • Train rides out of Cumberland, Call 1-800-TRAIN-50; RT 68 East - Downtown exit make right then left

  • Oakland Train Station: Sat-Sun 11am-4pm; 301-334-2691

  • Garrett Aviation Plane rides - Weather-permitting. Call 301-387-4100 SCENIC PLANE ride over Deep Creek Lake

  • Antique Shopping: from Penn Alps to Red House, Garrett County offers a wide variety of choices for the whole family

  • Simon Pearce Glass Blowing, 265 Glass Drive Mt. Lake Park, 301-334-5277
    219 South, turn left at Sand Flat Rd. Follow to end of road/blinking light/make right onto Rt. 135. Follow exactly 2.2 miles S. P. Glass on right up driveway

  • Petting Zoo/School House Earth: left from McHenry Visitor's Center lot up hill at Rt. 42 make left. School House Earth is 2.5 miles on right.

  • Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water. Always call for reservations: 1-724-329-8501. Rt 219 North to Keysers Ridge; make left on Rt 40 West; enter Pennsylvania. Follow to Rt 381; make right; follow signs

  • Kentucky Knob. Call for reservations: 1-724-329-1901. Directions are the same as above except pass Rt. 381; turn right at Chalk Hill; follow signs

  • Fort Necessity National Battlefield; Call 1-724-329-5512. Directions are the same as above to Rt 40 West. Watch for signs. The battlefield is on the left. Please note: CLOSED for the season after LABOR DAY.

  • Laurel Caverns; Call first 1-724-438-3003. Directions as above; follow Rt. 40 past all previous above attractions. Turn left at Laurel Caverns sign. Laurel Caverns is a natural cave. The tour may be strenuous for some. This cavern is the 16th longest developed cave in the United States.
