EVENT DIRECTIONS

Historic Marker Dedication Site:

From the Capital Beltway, take Exit 39 (River Road) west toward Potomac. Proceed for approximately 11 miles to the intersection of River Road and MD 112, Seneca Road. Turn left and continue on River Road for about 2.8 miles. The marker dedication ceremony will be on your left as you head west on River Road.

The Broad Branch Road Campus of the Carnegie Institution of Washington houses both the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism and the Geophysical Laboratory. It is located at 5241 Broad Branch Rd., N. W., Washington, D. C. 20015 just west of Rock Creek Park, and just south of the intersection of 32nd & Military. Free parking is available in (small) campus lots or along 32nd or Jocelyn.

To reach the campus from Military Road, turn South on 32nd street or Nevada. From Connecticut, take Military or Nebraska to Nevada. Connecticut Avenue connects to the Capital Beltway I-495 to the north of DTM, and runs to DuPont circle in downtown Washington to the south.

Directions from Beltway to DTM:

Exit Beltway (I-495) to Connecticut Avenue southbound (toward Chevy Chase). Drive 2.7 miles to Chevy Chase Circle. Continue around the circle southward on Connecticut for 0.5 mile to Military Road (fourth stoplight). At Military Road, turn left to head east for 0.5 mile to 32nd Street, N.W. (third stoplight). Turn right (south) on 32nd street for one block to the Carnegie Institution of Washington. Turn left on Jocelyn Street and park in one of our lots. The campus is located on the hilly, grassy area.

Directions from Downtown D. C. to DTM:

The Department is located in Chevy Chase, D.C., on 32nd Street, N.W., one block south of its intersection with Military Road. Military Road is a major east - west artery that intersects Wisconsin Avenue, Connecticut Avenue, Rock Creek Park, 16th Street, and Georgia Avenue. 32nd Street, N.W., is approximately 0.5 miles east of Connecticut Avenue and 0.5 miles west of Rock Creek Park.

Directions to the Carnegie Institution Headquarters:

The Administration Building of the Carnegie Institution is located at 1530 P Street, NW (the corner of 16th and P Streets), three blocks due east of Dupont Circle (the nearest Metro stop) and ten blocks due north of the White House.
