Beckwith Delivers Tuve Lecture Print E-mail
Friday, 21 October 2005

Steven Beckwith, Merle A Tuve Senior Fellow, delivered the Tuve Lecture on 19 October titled, “The Hubble Ultra Deep Field: The Assembly of Young Galaxies.” While discussing his current research, Beckwith presented many of Hubble’s deep-space images that are helping him and his colleagues come to understand how galaxies came into being after the Big Bang and how they evolved into their current form. Among the many highlights of Beckwith’s lecture was his demonstration of the Skywalker camera, a computer program that allows the user to “walk” through the deep field and observe the many objects resolved for the first time.
