Professor Sir David Edward and Professor Andrew Miller, members of the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland, visited the Broad Branch Road Campus today. Edward, Chairman of the Carnegie Trust, and Miller, Secretary and Treasurer, met with several members of the campus community. Librarian Shaun Hardy and Vera Rubin organized a tour throughout the administrative facilities and library and also led the guests to the Cyclotron Building, where they met with Ion Microprobe Research Specialist Jianhua Wang. Russell Hemley provided a tour of GL’s high-pressure physics facilities.
The group ended the morning tour with members of the astronomy group in the Astronomy Library, including Rubin, Paul Butler, Alycia Weinberger, and Mercedes López-Morales. They discussed Butler’s work on extrasolar planet discoveries and Rubin’s dark matter theories, over espresso.
