The Department of Terrestrial Magnetism (DTM) and the Geophysical Laboratory (GL) held a dedication ceremony on Thursday, 7 September 2006, for the David Greenewalt Building. The building, located on the Broad Branch Campus, is the result of a renovation and expansion of DTM's Experiment Building, originally constructed in 1919. The building is named in memory of David Greenewalt, the geophysicist and oceanographer who served as a trustee of the Carnegie Institution from 1992 through 2003. The decision to honor him was made in recognition of his life-long devotion to scientific discovery and his service to Carnegie as a member of its Board of Trustees.
