DTM Postdoctoral Fellow Catherine Hier-Majumder was tragically struck and killed by a Metro train on Friday, 27 October. A memorial circle, with Cathy’s family in attendance, was held at the Broad Branch Road Campus of the Carnegie Institution of Washington on Monday, 30 October. A funeral service will be held for Catherine on Saturday, 4 November, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 314 W. Vallette Street, Elmhurst, IL 60126. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Many Beautiful Minds. Catherine, a theoretician, completed her Ph.D. in geophysics at the University of Minnesota in 2003, and she spent the year thereafter on a postdoctoral appointment at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Catherine joined DTM in April 2005. Our sympathies go out to her family, friends, and colleagues.
