Nguyen's Work Featured in Astrophysical Journal Print E-mail
Thursday, 15 February 2007

A paper by Scott E. Forbush Fellow Ann Nguyen, Conel Alexander, and Larry Nittler will appear in the February 20 issue of the Astrophysical Journal. The paper, entitled, “Characterization of presolar silicate and oxide grains in primitive chondrites” began with Nguyen’s graduate work at Washington University, St. Louis, searching for presolar silicate grains in meteorites. At the time, some presolar phases had been identified in meteorites, but those of the presolar silicate variety—predicted to be the most abundant in presolar material—had not yet been identified. Nguyen’s research with a NanoSIMS ion probe led to the first unambiguous identification of this silicate stardust, which is detailed in the upcoming paper.
