Sergei Ipatov arrived at DTM last week to begin work with Alan Boss as a visiting research scientist. Ipatov and Boss will apply the FLASH adaptive mesh refinement code to study the dynamics of mixing and transport processes in the presolar cloud and in the solar nebula. Ipatov specializes in computer simulations of the orbital evolution of celestial bodies and dust particles in the solar system, in N-body simulations of the accumulation of planetary objects, and in understanding the processes that governed the formation and evolution of the solar system. He has also analyzed CCD images made during the Deep Impact mission, conducted observations of asteroids, and worked on the migration of celestial bodies.
