Carnegie Fellow Ann Nguyen joined DTM in February, following the receipt of her Ph.D. at Washington University, St. Louis. Ann’s research involves the analysis of tiny pieces of stardust to elucidate the intricacies of stellar evolution, nucleosynthesis, and galactic chemical evolution. Specifically, she utilizes the NanoSIMS ion microprobe to deduce the isotopic compositions of presolar grains, an effort which has led her to identify silicate stardust in meteorites. Working with Larry Nittler and the cosmochemistry group at DTM, Ann plans on continuing this research, while also using DTM’s newly acquired NanoSIMS to analyze recovered samples from the Stardust mission.
