Testing of New Code to Study Formations Print E-mail
Wednesday, 13 April 2005

Visiting investigator and former postdoctoral associate Elizabeth Myhill and student Justin Domes (Marymount University) began work in May with Alan Boss on testing and developing a new adaptive mesh hydrodynamics code (FLASH) for studying the formation of stellar and planetary systems. They intend to start by using FLASH to calculate the collapse of an interstellar cloud that is impacted by a supernova shock front, one likely scenario for the origin of the solar system, given the meteoritical evidence for short-lived radioactivities formed by a supernova.
