Carnegie Fellow Cathy Slesnick, who recently completed her Ph.D. at Caltech Caltech, joined DTM on 12 October. Her research focuses on the identification and characterization of low mass pre-main sequence stars and brown dwarfs in nearby star-forming regions. She has a particular interest in intermediate-age pre-main sequence (~3-10 Myr) objects that are in the process of dissipating circumstellar material and possibly forming planets. During her time at DTM, Slesnick plans to carry out research aimed at helping us understand how young stars evolve, and what role, if any, star-forming environment plays in this process.
