Senior Fellow Vera Rubin has been selected to receive the 2008 Richtmyer Memorial Award for her “outstanding contributions to physics and effectively communicating those contributions to physics educators.” The award has been given annually since 1941 by the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT), in memory of Floyd K. Richtmyer, a physicist, teacher, and administrator, who was a founder and president of AAPT. The Richtmyer Award will be presented to Rubin at the winter meeting of the AAPT on 22 January 2008, in Baltimore. She will deliver a keynote address at the meeting entitled “Rotating Galaxies and Dark Matter.” For more information, see the CIW release.
