NASA hosted a media teleconference today at 1 p.m. EST to serve as a preview of the MESSENGER mission to Mercury's historic first flyby of Mercury on 14 January. Participants included principal investigator and DTM director Sean Solomon, program scientist Marilyn Lindstrom of NASA Headquarters, missions systems engineer Eric Finnegan of the Applied Physics Laboratory, and participating scientist Faith Vilas of the MMT Observatory. The group answered twelve questions from callers that included CBS, Florida Today, Space.com, Space News, The Huntsville Times, Discovery Channel, Christian Science Monitor, Houston Chronicle, Science, Aerotech News and Review, Planetary Society, and the Baltimore Sun.
