Alan Boss is featured on NPR's All Things Considered today in a story about NASA's Kepler Space Telescope that will search for Earth-like planets around other stars. The mission is set to launch tonight at 10:49 p.m. EST and will orbit the Sun, spending more than three years analyzing stars in the constellations of Cygnus and Lyra. The brightness of these stars will be measured every half-hour in order to detect planetary transits. Boss-a member of Kepler's science team-comments, "The expectation is such that Earth-like planets will be quite common. But Kepler will actually prove that, one way or the other."
