Image: JHU/APL. | The National Space Club is awarding the 2009 Nelson P. Jackson Award to "The MESSENGER spacecraft flybys" of the MESSENGER mission to Mercury. Sean Solomon and mission project manager Peter Bedini, of the Applied Physics Laboratory, will accept the award on behalf of the project at the Space Club's Goddard Memorial Dinner on 17 April. The award is named in honor of the Space Club's founder and past president, and is given annually to recognize exceptional teamwork between government and industry in the missile, aircraft, and space fields.
