Alan Boss has been named the new chair of the Astrophysics Subcommittee of the NASA Advisory Council (NAC), and will also sit on the NAC’s Science Committee, chaired by former GL Director Wes Huntress. Each of the NAC’s five subcommittees represent diverse perspectives within their disciplines, providing recommendations and advice to NASA through the NAC Science Committee.

Boss has also been serving as the chair of the Astronomy section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) for the 2010-2011 term. The Astronomy section is one of 24 sections of the AAAS that arranges colloquia for the Annual Meeting, elects officers, and provides expertise for Association projects.
