The renovation of the Experiment Building is well underway. When completed, the building will boast a new seminar room with a greater seating capacity and a larger dining hall than current campus facilities. A new addition is also under construction in the back of the building, creating a conference room and strainmeter laboratory. A new carpentry shop will be housed in the basement of the building. The entryway gallery of the building will serve as a campus meeting-place before and after seminars, and the large outdoor brick patio will be used for outdoor lunches and social events.

The project has spanned several years. The planning committee began meeting in October 2001, but it took until November 2004 for a zoning permit to be issued by Washington, D.C., authorities. In June 2005, a building contract was signed with Forrester Construction, and construction began in July. The project is expected to be completed in March 2006.

The newly renovated building will be named after Carnegie Institution Trustee David Greenewalt. The dining hall will be named after former DTM Director Merle Tuve, during whose directorship the DTM Lunch Club was initiated.
