The University of Maryland (UMD) has announced that it will be presenting
DTM staff member R. Paul Butler with the International Alumnus Award
for the year 2004. This prize is given annually to a UMD alumnus
"who achieves international recognition for excellence in his profession."
Butler, who has been working with a team of scientists, including
Geoffrey Marcy of the University of California, Berkeley, since
1995 to develop and utilize the precision Doppler velocity technique
to detect extrasolar planets, will be presented with his award at
the Fifth Annual Alumni Association Awards Gala on April 17.
