DTM astrophysicist Paul Butler was featured in the KidsPost section of the Washington Post on Tuesday, 9 November. Butler’s visit to the fifth-grade class at Stoddert Elementary School in the District generated much enthusiasm, including a dance honoring the first extrasolar planet found in a habitable zone around its host star, for which Butler was co-discoverer. Butler answered questions from the students and encouraged them to dream of even bigger discoveries. Asked if he was ready to hop on a spaceship to the planet Gliese 581g, Butler replied, “It’s 20 light-years away. Even with our best rocket technology it would take tens of thousands of years to get there.”
