On 19 April, DTM’s Paul Butler was named a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.  Along with Butler, this year’s 212 newly elected Fellows include three Nobel laureates and 16 Foreign Honorary Members.   The new members will be inducted at a ceremony on 1 October at the Academy’s headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  Butler is being recognized for discovering over 330 planets.

Founded in 1780 by John Adams, James Bowdoin, John Hancock, and other scholar-patriots, the Academy has elected the most influential leaders from each generation as Fellows and Foreign Honorary Members. Current members include more than 250 Nobel laureates and 60 Pulitzer Prize winners. The Academy serves as an independent policy research center focusing on science and global security, social policy, the humanities and culture, and education.  Past members include George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Daniel Webster, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Albert Einstein, and Winston Churchill.

For more information, see Carnegie’s Press Release.  For a full list of this year's newly elected Fellows and Foreign Honorary Members, see the American Academy of Arts and Sciences website.  Other DTM staff members who are Fellows include Alan Boss, Rick Carlson, Vera Rubin, and Sean Solomon.
