John D. West is a graduate student in the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University. He is interested in upper mantle processes, which he investigates using seismology and other geophysical methods, and is also working on the development of new seismic instrumentation. His recent work involves detection of upper mantle down-welling beneath the Great Basin in central Nevada.
