Make focus follow mouse in X11
Solution: Issue the following command in an xterm (X11) window and then restart X11:
defaults write com.apple.x11 wm_ffm -bool true
The file modified by defaults in this case is ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.x11.plist.

Mounting a shared disk from another mac using the command line:

mkdir /Volumes/mnt (can use any name instead of mnt)
mount_afp -i afp://guest@computer.dtm.ciw.edu/ExternalData /Volumes/mnt
or
mount_afp -i afp://iraf@computer.dtm.ciw.edu/Alycia\ Weinberger\'s\ Public\ Fold /Volumes/mnt

In X11 (Xquartz 2.3.3.2) get back functionality of .xinitrc and set DISPLAY properly
- Make a file containing the commands you want executed upon startup and call it something like xinitrc and make it executable
- Tell x11 to run this file at startup:

 defaults write.org.x.X11 app_to_run xinitrc
```

Tips for restarting a Mac that is frozen
- reset PRAM - Hold OPTION-COMMAND p and r during startup (wait for 4 or more chimes)
- Boot without extensions - Hold down shift key during boot up
- Rebuild the desktop - Hold down the Apple (command) key + OPTION key duirng restart
- Bring up disk warrior - Hold down OPTION key while booting
- Boot to the firmware: OPTION+APPLE+O+F

Add Query to Safari Search box (like you can do on Firefox)
- Get the software called Inquisitor
- Go to Safari Preferences, Search tab, Edit Sites button, and hit + to add a New Custom Search Shortcut
- For Simbad: use the URL http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/sim-basic?Ident=%@&submit=SIMBAD+search
